Yorkshire runners gear up for 2010 London Marathon

The Icelandic volcano has upset the plans of a Yorkshire runner due to compete in the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday. Colin O’Neill, of Garforth, is presently stuck in Majorca with his wife and daughter.

But he is booked on a flight back home on Friday and is crossing fingers that it lifts off.

Otherwise he hopes to run his own marathon on the Spanish island on Sunday

Colin, managing director of Taskmaster Resources of Leeds, is one of 16 athletes running for Martin House Hospice.

Volcanic ash leaves editor stranded in Majorca

A regional daily editor has been stranded in Majorca after the volcanic ash crisis forced him to extend his Easter holiday.

Paul Robertson, editor of Newcastle’s Evening Chronicle, was due back at work this week but instead is enduring what he terms a “frustrating and very expensive” extended stay at the Spanish resort.

Meanwhile, Birmingham Mail content editor Mike Macklin spent three days travelling back from his holiday in Italy as the ash cloud forced the closure of airports across northern Europe.

Jet2.com announce flights from Edinburgh to Majorca

Jet2.com the low cost carrier has just announced a brand new route from Edinburgh to Majorca. The airline will start the additional route on the 26th of June.

This will be Jet2.com’s 12th destination from Edinburgh.

The carrier is also looking to increase the frequency of its flights to Ibiza from Edinburgh too.

Kooks to play Mallorca Rocks hotel launch

Brighton band the Kooks are set to launch the Mallorca Rokcs hotel this June by playing a live gig in the hotel.

The band said that they will be playing songs from their soon to be released 3rd album.

Royal Caribbean launch new cruise line in Majorca

In order to meet higher demand in the UK and Ireland travel markets Royal Caribbean is basing one of its ships in the resort of Palma de Majorca.

Cruises from ‘the grandeur of the seas’ will be available from summer 2010 and booking can be made from March this year.

The ship was first seen on the waters in 1996 and was based in Florida but will be traveling to Palma de Majorca in order to cater for the increase in customers interested in this additional route.

There cruise line is launching this new route with a marketing campaign aimed at the consumer and trade market.

Associate vice president and general manager Jo Rzymowska told Travel Mole – “Growing out itinerary options to offer popular family sunshine destinations as an embarkation point for a cruise will further increase our market share in this sector”.
