Prepaid credit cards have increased in popularity whether paying for products and services in Majorca or elsewhere on holiday. They are accepted at any business that takes that brand of card. There are numerous advantages of prepaid credit cards, and it is recommended that you check into their use before your next trip.
The best part of using a prepaid credit card is that you will not run up big bills that will have to be paid once you return from holiday. That is because you have to deposit money in an account, and you can then use your prepaid credit card just like a regular credit card until the balance in the account runs out.
With this type of card, you do not have to later face a big credit card statement and interest charges if you cannot pay the balance in full. It is also much safer to carry a card than a large amount of cash. Write down the card number, the name of the company issuing the card, and the phone number. Carry that separately just in case your wallet or purse is stolen and you have to report the card as stolen.
You do have to pay a one-time fee of perhaps £5 to £10 or more to set up the account and further fees if you later decide to add to the card, but the advantages are that you do not have to fill out an application for the card or go through a credit check to prove that you have good credit and high income requirements in order to obtain the card because the money is there. These reasons are a high priority for those with bad credit and also students who don’t have an established credit history. If a parent gives a student a prepaid credit card, it not only limits the spending but teaches the student about budgeting and spending wisely.
Since there is no reporting of a prepaid credit card to the credit bureaus, this is good for those who have trouble managing their money. However, if you want to enhance your credit rating, this type of card will not help that goal.
